Caffè Culture 2009 enjoys a record year

Despite the current tough economic climate, Caffè Culture has just hosted its busiest and best event yet.   The UK’s leading industry event took place at Olympia on 20 & 21 May 2009 and saw a record 4,632 visitors and over 200 international exhibitors in attendance.

The event offered thousands of products and services specifically designed to meet the needs of the UK’s coffee bar industry, with a host of companies utilising Caffè Culture as the platform from which to launch new products, including: La Spaziale, Lavazza, Style Café, Montezuma’s, Anfim, Detpak, Monin, Prichitts, Fudges, Tea2Go and Honeybuns.

This year’s extensive programme of seminars and workshops was specifically designed to provide an invaluable resource for owners and managers of cafés and coffee bars who need additional business support during the recession.   Sessions dealt with everything from: developing a business and financial strategy to ensure survival; understanding and capitalising on your customer profile; maintaining quality of service and products whilst maximising profits; creating customer loyalty; building a robust brand and creating an attractive and welcoming environment on a budget.  Speakers included Geoff Burch, BBC 2’s All Over the Shop, entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den panelist, Deborah Meaden and Coffee Boys, Hugh Gilmartin and Johnnie Richardson.

The 2009 event also saw Caffè Culture announce that it is to host next year’s World Barista Championships and the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe’s Wonderful World of Coffee, making it the largest event for the café and coffee bar market to take place in Europe in 2010.

The plans will see the 2010 event hosted from 23 – 25 June, extended by a day and relocated to the Grand Hall, Olympia to allow the time and space for it to encompass a significantly larger international exhibition and conference.  The event will expand to include the full competition programme for both the World Barista Championships and SCAE World Championships for Cup Tasting, Latte Art, Coffee in Good Spirits and the new Cezve/Ibrik contest, a full SCAE workshop schedule, a world-class conference and a comprehensive programme of social and networking events.

Exhibitors at the 2009 event were extremely keen to ensure they secured their places for 2010 and, before the show had closed, over 70% of the space at the much larger 2010 event had been sold.

This is the first time the World Barista Championships and the SCAE Wonderful World of Coffee will be hosted in the UK and is set to attract in excess of 10,000 international visitors to Caffè Culture over the three days.  Elliot Gard, Event Director, Caffè Culture comments: “We are overjoyed with how the 2009 event went and extremely pleased to have witnessed a 4% increase in visitor numbers year on year.  We have had fantastic feedback from exhibitors and visitors alike, all suggesting that this year’s event delivered an excellent networking and business opportunity for the whole café and coffee bar community in the UK.

Gard continues: “We are delighted to be working with the SCAE to host the 2010 events.  Since its launch, Caffè Culture has quickly established itself as the UK’s leading industry event, proving to be an invaluable resource for the UK’s café and coffee bar market.  It therefore provides the natural home for the UK premiere of the WBC and SCAE Wonderful World of Coffee.  We are also extremely pleased to offer our exhibitors the superb opportunity to reach an even wider audience, providing an excellent platform to target both a UK and international audience of buyers within a single event.  It will offer the entire community a tremendous boost at a time when many businesses have been hit hard by the economic downturn.”
