The New Cycling Sisterhood
Cycle Show 2009
Earls Court, London, 8-11 Oct 2009
Forget helmet hair and unforgiving lycra outfits – Cycle Show 2009 brings together leading fashion brands and celebrity experts together to offer advice and guidance to the new breed of cycling sisters.
In the last 12 months, women’s cycling has seen something of a resurgence. With figureheads like Olympic gold medallists Rebecca Romero and Victoria Pendleton – and a growing awareness of the health and financial benefits of taking to two wheels – cycling is the yoga of the noughties. Ever quick to respond the needs of their cycling public, October’s Cycle Show 2009 will cater to the new wave of female cyclists by launching a host of in-show female friendly features.
In a first for the cycling industry, Cycle Show 2009 will host a series of Women’s Sessions to provide hands-on expert advice for the growing numbers of female cycling fans. Mixing entertainment with informative discussion and taking audience questions, these sessions will see leading industry experts discuss the wide and varied issues facing women who cycle. From fashion designers advising on the best outfits to wear whilst commuting, to discussions on the best bikes for beginners from world-leading cycling manufacturers, the Women’ Sessions should be the first port of call for all females who have ever taken to two wheels.
On top of this, Cycle Show 2009 will host Bike Style Consultancy sessions incorporating fashion shows highlighting the very latest in cycling style, as well as personal shoppers on-site to give tailored advice on every cycling purchasing option. With the mountain bike and commuter test track holding dedicated sessions for women to try out a range of new bikes, and a number of spectacular prize giveaways taking place, Cycle Show 2009 has an unparalleled offering for female cycling fans.
The growing popularity of cycling amongst women has not gone unnoticed by the cycling industry with leading bike retailer Specialized expanding its women's ranges after seeing sales grow last year. Andrew Brabazon, Cycle Show Director, believes that this is one trend that will only continue: “We’ve known for years that female cyclists are just as passionate about cycling as their male counterparts but it is encouraging to see that so many new cyclists are women. In programming this year’s event, we were aware of the need to cater to this significant cycling audience and we are confident that we have an unparalleled range of speakers and in-show features tailored to a growing number of female attendees.”
